On August 22, 2021 Wilma Gertrude Bankhead Neff Tilby, known as Winks, passed away at\nthe age of 82 surrounded by her eternal sweetheart and loved ones.\nShe was born on April 24, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York to Heber Nels Bankhead and Gertrude\nDorothy Margaret Virginia Driscoll. After the passing of her parents, she and her brother John\nHeber Bankhead were adopted by her dad’s sister Mildred Bankhead Neff and her husband\nSteven Brinton Neff.\nWhile attending Brigham Young University, Winks met Vincent Marinus Tilby and they were\nmarried and sealed on August 20, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they fulfilled their\ndream of a big family by having six children, Kathy (Don) Randall, Jeannie (Ed) Brewer, Marina\n(John) Rider, John (Jill) Tilby, Dave (Shannon) Tilby, and Danny (Kelli) Tilby. She was a devoted\ngrandmother to 26 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, and counting.\nWinks achieved a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Family History & Genealogy from Brigham\nYoung University, after she raised her kids. She loved history, genealogy, and learning about\npeople. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and\nserved the way Christ did—one by one and without recognition.\nWinks loved her community and served many years in PTA including President and was a\ndevoted member of the Cottonwood Heights Community Council. She served on the\ngovernor’s Utah Statehood Centennial Commission and was involved in the planning of the\nCentennial celebration events.\nThose who know Winks love her. There are no words to describe the kind of person she was.\nShe was selfless, spunky, and truly one-of-a-kind. She loved fiercely, made friends wherever\nshe went, talked to all strangers, and fought for the underdog. Hers was the home the neighbor\nkids wanted to come to.\nThere will never be enough time or words to describe Winks. But we will think of and talk\nabout her always. She is in our hearts forever. We love you, love you, love you Winks.\nFuneral services were held Saturday August 28, 2021.
