Wesley Vorwaller, 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the beloved son of Bernice and Louis Vorwaller and leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, hard work, service, and love.
Wes is survived by his wife and sweetheart of 62 years, Ann Calderwood Vorwaller, and their children: Vicki (Peter) Chamberlain, Jan (Rundassa) Eshete, David (Amy), Matthew (Alice), Jedidiah (Celia), Joan (Jared) Doot, and Kurt. He was a proud grandfather to 35 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, LuAnn (Scott) VonHatten. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Valerie; grandson, Quentin; and brothers Darrel, Blaine, Don, and Terry.
Raised on a farm, Wes learned from an early age the value of hard work, perseverance, and family. He attended Tooele High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in vocational agriculture from Brigham Young University, where he played football as a right tackle. He later received a teaching certificate from Utah State University. Throughout his career, Wes worked for Del Monte and taught at Dixie High School and Tooele Junior High.
Wes was a talented and hardworking craftsman. He worked as a carpenter and cement finisher for Christensen and Griffith and took great pride in building things with his own hands. He helped his mother and brother build and operate the family mobile home park and also helped build his own home—a place that became a gathering place for family and countless cherished memories.
Service and faith were important parts of Wes’s life. He served in the Utah Army National Guard and later served a mission in the South German/Bavarian Mission. He was an active and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a bishop and in many other callings. He also served as a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Wes and Ann were blessed to serve missions together in Nauvoo, Illinois, and Heber-Overgaard, Arizona.
Wes was proud of his heritage and treasured his membership in the Sons of Utah Pioneers. He was a man who found joy in simple, meaningful things—making wooden toys for his grandchildren, cheering them on at their sporting events, tending his garden, enjoying family vacations, having gospel conversations, and, perhaps most importantly, sharing a good bowl of ice cream.
Above all, Wes loved his family. His greatest legacy will not be measured by the things he built or the many ways he served, but by the love he gave so freely to his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends. His steady example of faith, hard work, kindness, and devotion will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of Community Nursing Services for the kindness, compassion, and support they provided to Wes and his family.
Wes will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
