Vernon Leon Steele, age 79, returned home to his Heavenly Father on July 7, 2021, from his home in Erda, Utah. Leon was born April 10th, 1942, in Weiser, Idaho to Louise Ada Aldred and Jesse Wayne Steele. He grew up in Vale, Oregon where he met and married his high school sweetheart Allison Virginia Harrod. Leon served five years in the Oregon and Idaho National Guard. In 1967 they moved to Anchorage, Alaska where he eventually became an Alaska State Trooper and Fish and Wildlife Protection Officer. He loved being a bush pilot, hunting, fishing, trapping, and spending time with his wife and kids. He retired in 1990 and moved back to Oregon where he spent many years farming, serving faithfully in callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his many beloved friends. He and Allison have spent the last five years near family in Erda, Utah. His laugh, his smile, and his keen sense of humor will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife Allison, son Lonny (Kathleen) Steele, daughter Lisa (Darrus) McBride, and 11 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren, sister Dorothy Whitehead, brothers Richard (Verdella) Grout, Steve (Sandy) Grout, sister-in-law Shirley Harrod, brothers-in-law Tom (Carol) Harrod, Larry (Kathy) Harrod, sister-in-law Sherri (Dennis) Hironaka, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his mother Louise Grout, sister Peggy (Sam) Grigg, Darrell Whitehead, and brother-in-law Bob Harrod. Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 16th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Erda Stake Center, 1037 W. Erda Way, Erda, Utah. A Viewing will precede the services at 9:30-10:45 a.m., Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. followed by a 12:30 p.m. interment at the Stansbury Park Cemetery at 132 Brigham Rd. Stansbury Park, Utah.
