In the early morning of September 27th, while surrounded by family, Trudy Curtis passed away peacefully. She was holding the hand of her best friend and husband of 55 years. Trudy was born in Lyman, Utah, to Grant LaMar and Edna Maxfield on October 5, 1947. She was the fourth of five children (Uvonne, Frank, Gloria, and the baby was Byron who she said stole her baby place in the family). She would share stories of growing up in small train towns and sleeping in boxcars as a child.
Trudy was swept off her feet and fell madly in love with Richard Curtis, and they were married May 10, 1971. Together they had four children, Richard Jr, Jason, Misty, and Kayla. All of whom she loved with her whole heart and very fiercely. Her family was her everything and her greatest joy. As the years went on her children had children. Her heart grew even bigger to ensure there was enough room in her heart for the many, many grandbabies!
Trudy worked as a nurse for 44 years. During this time, she made many friends and touched many lives. The many patients and coworkers always held a special place in her world. From working at Pioneer Valley Hospital, Tooele Valley Hospital, and Shriner’s Hospital she always said each place taught her more. She also had the privilege to teach future nurses at SLCC and Weber State College. Even at times paying her daughter to allow students to practice IV skills on her. She was always so proud of her years in nursing and was still sharing stories up to the end.
Trudy is survived by her loving husband Richard, son Jason, daughter Misty and many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren (1 more due in Nov). She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Uvonne, brother Byron, her oldest son Richie, and baby daughter Kayla. We can only imagine the reunion they had when she arrived. We joke about which of her two children fought the hardest and won the first hug!
A viewing will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 5 to 7 PM at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main Street, Tooele, Utah.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11AM with a viewing prior from 9:30-10:45AM, at the LDS Stake Center, 580 N. 270 E., Tooele, Utah. She will be laid to rest at Tooele City Cemetery immediately after, followed by a luncheon for friends and family.
Her favorite color was purple, and the family would love to see a sea of purple as we say farewell to our wife/mom/nana. The family would also love to express all the love given to her at Mountain West ICU and Tate Mortuary! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Mom was an amazing and special mom/wife! We could not have asked for a better or more special mom to raise and guide us. We are all better people because we had the opportunity to know her.
Rest easy mom! We will take it from here! We will keep dad in line as well. This is not goodbye but, instead, “See ya later.”
