Robert Chato Rainwater, known lovingly by his wife as "Gordo," passed away on March 25, 2026, in Tooele, Utah, the same community where his life began on May 11, 1959. He was 66 years old.
Robert answered the call to serve his country as a young man, dedicating four years to the United States Marine Corps. His military background took him across the nation for specialized training, including sniper and bodyguard courses, and instilled in him the discipline and determination that would define the rest of his life. Following his service, he became a valued member of the Dugway Special Response Team, where he continued to put his exceptional skills to use in the defense of others.
Robert was a man of relentless ambition and drive to master new pursuits. He earned distinction as a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Freemason and achieved a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate, a discipline he spoke of with great pride and enthusiasm. His passions were wide ranging, from gun marksmanship and scuba diving to hiking, jogging, and reading. He found quiet joy in antique collecting and thrifting, and he cherished nothing more than loading up the family for road trips across the country. His upbeat personality, sharp humor, and willingness to share his love of karate and motorcycles with anyone who would listen made him a beloved presence in every room he entered.
Robert was a member of the Catholic Church, the Freemasons, and the American Legion, giving generously of his time and spirit wherever he was needed. Above all, Robert was a devoted family man. He and his beloved wife, Teresa Rainwater, shared 38 years of marriage, a partnership built on love for their children and unwavering commitment. His greatest pride was his family, and his devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren, and sister never wavered.
Robert is survived by his wife, Teresa; his sons, Ardell and Robert; Sister Pam and his grandchildren Race and Ruby, who will carry his legacy forward. May he now rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord he faithfully served.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by mass at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Kenneth Vialpando, at St. Marguerite Catholic Church, 15 South 7th Street, Tooele, Utah.
