Melvin Victor Evensen
1939-2026

Melvin Victor Evensen passed away on Monday, October 26, 2026, at his home in Tooele, Utah. He was born on March 12, 1939, in a hotel room in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was the youngest son of Fredric Tolaf Evensen and Eliza Ellen Evensen.

He graduated from Tooele High School in 1958. He married Janice Irene Garner on December 18, 1958. Melvin and Janice were the parents of 5 children, Melvin Lee Evensen, who died at birth; Peggy Dawn (Scott) Quinney; Patti Irene (Rudy) Madole; Roger Paul (Valerie) Evensen; and Dennis Ray (Holly) Evensen, 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Melvin was taught at an early age to have a good work ethic. He once worked three jobs at once. He learned many skills throughout his careers. He was a Sailor in the US Navy. He worked at a gas station and at the bowling alley setting pins. His main careers were a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service, an ambulance driver for Gillette Ambulance Service, where he was the first EMT for Tooele County, and a cab driver for Green Top Cab. He also drove a school bus for Tooele County School District, and he and Janice were co-owners of Janice’s Party Supplies in Tooele.

He had many special friends. He loved going to McDonalds and sitting with the group in the morning. Dad did that for over 20 years. He and John Petani rebuilt the 1929 Model A. He would enter the car in many different car shows throughout the years. He also loved driving the ambulance in Wendover for the Salt Flat Races.

Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, their first child, his parents, and all of his brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the Skyline Ward, 777 Skyline Drive, Tooele, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Tooele City Cemetery.

We would especially like to thank Jade, Tamsyn, Lacey, Sarah, Zac, and Reva for the love and care they showed him throughout his struggles with Dementia, or as he called it, “Old Age.”
