Kevin James Woods
September 24, 1953 – October 2, 2026
Kevin James Woods, 73, passed away peacefully in his home on October 2, 2026, surrounded by the loving and supportive family who remained by his side.
Kevin was preceded in death by his sweetheart and wife of 43 years, Jill Woods; his parents, Erla and Jay Woods; his brother, Gordon Woods; and his sister, Vickie Fiddler.
He is survived by his three siblings Bruce Woods, Mike Woods and Gaylynn Sutton and his three children, Shantil (Nathan) Garn, Eric (JaeCee) Woods, and Kari (Cody) Montgomery; and his eight grandchildren, who brought tremendous joy and purpose to his life.
As a young man, Kevin was an accomplished diver, an avid skier, and an outdoorsman. He served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Dakotas and Manitoba, Canada. Throughout his life, he served in various church callings, but much of his time was spent working with the youth, where he made a positive and lasting impact on many lives.
The greatest story of Kevin’s life began when he met Jill at a credit union in 1976. Together, Kevin and Jill built a life centered on family, generosity, adventure, friendship, and a home whose door always seemed to be open. They welcomed family, friends, and even strangers with a warmth that made people feel like they belonged.
Their marriage became an example to their children and grandchildren of what it meant to truly care for another person. As Jill’s health deteriorated, Kevin cared for her selflessly, refusing to leave her side for close to a decade.
Kevin was patient, compassionate, creative, hardworking, and extraordinarily generous—sometimes almost unbelievably so. He saw the best in people and gave freely of his time, his abilities, his home, and himself. His kindness was never transactional; helping someone was simply part of who he was.
To Kevin, you take care of the people you love because it’s just what you do. You work hard, keep your word, lend a hand, solve the problem in front of you, and treat people with kindness because those things shouldn’t require recognition or explanation.
Kevin spent much of his life as a plumbing contractor, but anyone who knew him knew that his talents extended far beyond his trade. He was happiest using his hands—solving a problem, building something, fixing something, or dreaming up a better way to do it.
He loved fishing, boating, Lake Powell, and being outdoors, but mostly he loved experiencing those things with his family. Countless trips to Lake Powell became some of his children’s most treasured memories. As the years passed, he found just as much happiness sharing the outdoors and those same adventures with his grandchildren.
In the end, Kevin’s greatest accomplishment wasn’t anything he built with his hands. It was the family he and Jill built together, the memories they created, the people they welcomed into their lives, and the example he leaves behind for his children and grandchildren.
Losing Jill left a space in Kevin’s life that could never truly be filled. His family finds comfort today in imagining the two sweethearts reunited—together and healthy once again.
