John “Paul” Johnson of Tooele Utah, our father, our example, husband, and hero returned to our Heavenly Father surrounded by his family on November 7, 2021, in Gilbert, Arizona. Paul was the son of Lester and Betty (Sampson) Johnson born April 2, 1944, in Delta Utah. He was brought into a loving family and raised on a farm where he learned from his parents how to be an example of hard work and faith. Later, he married Marilyn Beth Barrus of Wendell, Idaho, on June 10th, 1966, in the Logan, Utah Temple. Together they had nine children. He and Marilyn settled in Sutherland Utah on the family dairy farm and there raised eight of his nine children (we now share him with our sister Angela). Paul had cherished life-long relationships with his gang of friends from Delta whom he had remained close with his entire life. Paul earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah. He was also a successful real estate broker, operating his own real estate agency for many years. Paul enjoyed writing, fishing with his boys, coin collecting, and any other activity that involved his children. In 1992, he moved his family to Holladay, Utah. There, he strengthened testimony through various church callings and created lasting friendships with many people in the community. Paul and Marilyn then moved to Tooele, Utah to be closer to their children and grandchildren, where they have resided for the past 10 plus years. Paul enjoyed his relationships and associations that he gained in Tooele, he especially had a fondness for the time he spent owning and operating the Stockton Gas Station. He and Marilyn served a mission together for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Conference Center in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. He loved sharing the history of the church, coupled with his own testimony, to all visitors worldwide. Paul was a friend to everyone who crossed his path. Family was the center of his universe, never was his smile bigger, nor his eyes brighter than when his family was around him. He loved God, and we knew it. He loved his wife, and we knew it. He loved his children and his country, and we knew it. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and as we preserve his legacy they will know it too. His legacy is sealed with his testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ that he loved so much, and lives through us as we magnify what he taught, to love and to serve faithfully. If ever we would deviate from the path he cleared for us, he would remind us to “get some class”. A simple and loving reminder to be more like our Savior. Paul is preceded in death by his parents Lester and Betty Johnson, his sister Carma and his angel daughter Angela. He is survived by his wife and sweetheart Marilyn, his children Jeri Kinsman (Doug), Kent Johnson (Heather), Jake Johnson (Amy), Josh Johnson (Cristina), Caleb Johnson (Chelsea), Bill Johnson (Danielle), Nick Johnson (Kelli), Chris Johnson (Darci), his 66 grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also survived by his siblings Merrill Johnson (Carol), Annalee Church (Gary), Carla Cory (Jim), Betsy Fredickson (Dan), and Ray Johnson (MaryAnne). Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 20th at 11:00 am at the Middle Canyon Ward building, 777 Skyline Drive Tooele, Utah. Visitation will be at the same location beginning at 9:45 am. Internment will take place at the Tooele City Cemetery. The family would especially like to thank the Drs and staff at Gilbert Mercy Medical Center ICU for the tender loving care they extended to our dear father.
