Tooele, Utah
In the early morning hours of September 18, Paul Ackman passed away peacefully in his sleep. Born on October 9, 1963, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Marvin Earl and Beth Ackman. Paul lived a full life. After high school, in 1982 Paul joined the U.S. Navy and became an aircraft mechanic, specializing in helicopter repair and maintenance. It was during this time that Paul met his first wife Carol Stabaugh, who was also in the Navy. After Paul left the service in 1986, he traveled with Carol to Rota, Spain and the Wahiawa, Hawaii. During this time, they were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Suzanne (Kody) Ackman and Elizabeth (William) Ackman. After Carol left the service, they settled in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
Paul obtained his CDL and started driving for local companies. In 1995, Paul started driving for C.R. England driving nationally. During this time Paul and Carol divorced. Paul came back to Tooele permanently in 1997. In 1999, Paul started working for the Tooele County School district as a custodian at Tooele High. His aptitude for repairing just about anything served him well and he quickly gained a reputation for being the go-to guy if something broke, not only for the school but for teachers and students alike.
Paul did many things behind the scenes that no one saw, going in early to shovel snow, getting the boilers going so the school had heat, repairing a broken A/C unit on a 130-degree roof. Because of all this, and with the help of his best friend, Ed Glaser, he worked himself up to head groundskeeper and assistant head custodian. Paul was well liked at school and was willing to help anyone that needed it in any way he could. Paul touched many lives while he was there and remained friends with many former students and teachers after parting ways in 2019.
In 2012, Paul met Rosa-Lee Benson. They married in 2018 and shared 9 years together and although they weren’t together, he loved her with all his heart. Paul loved books and would read just about anything he could get his hands on, from car repair manuals to fantasy novels. Paul also loved his music, namely Bob Seger. To say that Bob Seger was his favorite would be an understatement. If you ever had a conversation with him about Seger, he could rattle off facts about him and his songs that would blow your mind.
Paul is survived by his daughters, three grandchildren, brothers Ken Ackman and Ray (Dorothy) Norrington, and his two cats, Luna and Bullet. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents Amber and John “Jack” Muny, many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Per his request, no formal services of any kind will be held. Instead, there will be a celebration of life held in Middle Canyon on Friday, September 24, 2021, at 1:00 p.m.
Paul was a man like no other. His kind, gentle, caring soul will be missed by so many that knew him. He was friendly to many, close friend to some, and a brother to a select few. The world is a little darker place because he’s not here, but he’s finally free of the demons he carried, and I know he’s happier now with the reunions that are happening wherever he is.
