Long Beach, California

George Elmo Blackburn 2/15/32-11/23/24

Born in Mancos, Colorado, and then moved to Utah with family. Graduated from Tooele high school in 1950. He married the love of his life LaRae Walk in 1951 from Grantsville, Utah. Their first bundle of joy was born in 1953 (Curtis) followed by more joy in 1955 (Kelvin). They also moved from Utah that year to Long Beach, California. Dad’s career was first with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft then for the city of Long Beach as a tree trimmer and ending as a heavy equipment operator on the beach, with retirement after 32 years of service. His beloved LaRae passed in 1993. They lived for 27 years on Belice across from El Dorado Park in Long Beach. At the park in Long Beach dad enjoyed countless hours on the court playing basketball, (where if you asked him, he was king of the courts.). Seriously, he did play until his mid-70s. George moved to Leisure World senior housing in Seal Beach, California in 2008. He loved the outdoors, listening to the rain, camping, Hawaii, family activities, western music, and SPORTS. Dad had the best smile and didn’t know a stranger.

Survived by sons Curtis and Kelvin their wives Dori and Anna, granddaughter Corinne Bray, husband Mike, grandson Shane, great grandsons; Silas, Logan and Chase Bray.

Service will be 11:00am, at Tate Mortuary on Saturday 12/7/24 in Tooele, Utah. Burial following in Grantsville, Utah.
