Gayle Vernal Pettit, loving husband, father and grandfather, age 73, of Tooele, Utah, passed away Friday April 17, 2015 at his home after a long battle with Leukemia. He suffered many months and never complained. He spent his final weeks in the comfort of his own bed, surrounded by loved ones. Gayle was born July 8, 1941 in Murray, Utah to Vernal and Amber (Hixson) Pettit. He served an L.D.S. mission from 1961-1963 in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. After only dating four months, on June 22, 1963 he married the love of his life Joyce Karen Gines. They were blessed with two daughters Annette and Valerie. The four of us traveled together frequently during Gayle's career as a diesel driver. We went to the Grand Canyon, Moab, Vernal and Idaho. He enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles in Tabiona and also driving his dune buggy. Gayle was employed at Associated Food Stores for 22 years. After retiring, he enjoyed spending a lot of time with the love of his life, children, grandchildren, and the last two years with Makayla, his great granddaughter whom he lovingly called "little one". Gayle is survived by his wife Joyce; two daughters, Annette and Valerie; five grandchildren, Aujelle, Daniel, Courtney, Brandon and Alyssa; and his beloved great granddaughter, Makayla. He has six sisters: Donna, Joan, Carol, Margaret, Miriam and Karla; and two brothers, Lynn and Roger. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
