Charlene Sellman Lougy passed peacefully back into the arms of her soulmate James “Hap” Lougy on August 3, 2024. Together in heaven they can celebrate what would have been their 75th wedding anniversary.
Charlene was born on May 11, 1934, in Tooele, Utah. She met a cute boy when she was 14 and they were married on August 6th, 1949. Together they had 5 children James (Jody), Donald, Monty, Cindy Lougy Perry, and Leisa (Mark) Bankhead.
Charlene encompassed everything a matriarch should be. She was a devoted mother and wife, a loyal friend to many, and a successful bookkeeper at Tooele Federal Credit Union. Charlene enjoyed traveling with friends and square dancing. After retirement, Hap and Charlene spent 25 years as snowbirds in St. George. There, they made many friends and enjoyed playing cards and having family visits.
Charlene loved her pictures and making her books, she was a talented seamstress and artist. She wrote poetry and also enjoyed genealogy.
Charlene was a really fun grandma. There weren’t many rules at grandma and grandpa’s house. She taught the importance of making family memories, while also passing down family pictures and stories. She was always supportive of all of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids activities and celebrated in their talents and accomplishments.
Charlene had a hilariously irreverent sense of humor. Her laugh was infectious as well as her appetite for fun. She loved practical jokes and teasing those she loved. She was steadfast in her beliefs, and one never had to wonder how she felt about things.
Charlene’s legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as many friends she has made along the way. She will be remembered as being smart, fair, fun, strong, talented, for her love of reality TV, music, dancing, card games, and of course for the love and wisdom she has passed down to future generations.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 8 from 11:00 am-12:00 pm at Tate Mortuary, 110 South Main Street, Tooele, Utah. Interment will be at Tooele City Cemetery following the service.
