Carol Holmes Warburton
Our loving, kind, spunky mother passed away peacefully at her home in Grantsville, Utah on February 12, 2025, at the age of 87. She was born February 20, 1937, to Walter Godfrey Holmes and Virginia Mendenhall of Raymond, Alberta, Canada where she spent her childhood on the family farm. She was raised in a loving home with four brothers that she deeply loved. As a family, they would frequent Waterton National Park for camping, hiking, fishing, and boating which enhanced her love for the outdoors. In her teenage years, she worked at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton. She shared her love for Canada with her family through stories, pictures, and often returning to show them the beautiful places that were special to her. On June 13, 1956, Carol married James Dudley Anderson and started her family. They later divorced. In 1964, she left her home in Canada to attend BYU. As a single mother of two, she earned her BS in Education. She married Robert Shepherd Warburton on June 30, 1969. They were sealed for all time and eternity on April 24, 1970, in the Salt Lake Temple. After combining their families, they started their life together in Tooele Utah, later ranching in Washakie Utah, Vernon Utah, and Green River, Utah, finally settling down in Grantsville Utah. Carol worked 22 years for the Tooele County School District teaching shorthand, typing, keyboarding, and computers at Tooele High School, Dugway High School and Grantsville High School before retiring on May 31, 2002. Carol was a faithful and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings throughout the church, with her favorite being ward chorister. In 2007, Carol served a mission in the South Carolina Columbia mission as a mission office clerk.
Carol was an amazing woman of many talents that she enjoyed sharing with those around her. From gardening, to baking, cooking, to sewing clothes for her kids, Christmas pajamas for her grandkids, and doll dresses, she could do it all. She had a beautiful voice and would share her talent of singing in the ward choir and in the Christmas presentation of the Messiah. With her voice and gift of playing the piano, she instilled a love for music in her children. She loved to read books and tried to pass that passion on to her children. Carol was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, niece, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Carol is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Robert Holmes, Thomas Holmes and John Holmes, and granddaughter Hannah Warburton. She is survived by her brother David (Beryl) Holmes, children DeAnne (Roger) Evans, Kendall (Susan) Anderson, Bryce (Jennifer) Anderson, Bruce (Laura) Warburton, Keith (Valerie) Warburton, and Roberta (Craig) Durfee, 34 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
