Brent ‘Bud’ Roy Bryan
January 2, 1943 - October 11, 2026

Brent ‘Bud’ Roy Bryan was a remarkable man who knew how to make the most of life. He loved to laugh, have fun, tell a good joke, and make the people around him smile. His quick wit, playful personality, generous heart, and unwavering love for his family made him someone you were always glad to be around. Bud had a special gift for making ordinary moments memorable and good times even better. Above all, family was his greatest blessing, and he spent his life loving them, supporting them, and making memories they will cherish forever.

Bud was born on January 2, 1943, to Roy Lynn and Rowena Worthington Bryan. He was a loving brother to Karyn (Chad) Culley, Lynn (Phillip) Crawford, and Jan ‘JB’ (Marge) Bryan. He treasured his family and the relationships that shaped his life.

Bud was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to Australia, where he shared his testimony and love of the gospel. His love for the Lord remained an important part of his life, and he faithfully served in many Church callings throughout the years. His faith guided him as he served others and loved those around him.

Bud spent more than 30 years working for Utah Power & Light as a supervisor in the meter reading department. He was well-liked and respected by those he worked with, earning the admiration of his colleagues through his leadership, good nature, and sense of humor. For Bud, work was about more than just a job; it was also about the friendships he made along the way. He cherished the many people he worked with and the lasting relationships that grew out of those years.

In 1965, Bud married his sweetheart, Janice Shields, and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised four daughters: Janilyn (Scott) McCrady, Camille (Larry) Hanson, Lori (Shaun) Taron, and Keli (Preston) McDowell.

If there was ever a man who deserved the title of “Best Girl Dad,” it was Bud! He was his daughters’ biggest cheerleader, always ready to support, encourage, and join in whatever they wanted to do. Whether he was coaching their softball teams, cheering from the sidelines at gymnastics meets, attending piano recitals, applauding at dance competitions, or shopping with them, Bud showed up with enthusiasm and love. He was always up for an adventure, never missed an opportunity to make them laugh, and made sure his girls knew they could count on him. He didn’t just watch his daughters grow up; he was right there beside them, cheering them on every step of the way.

After Janice passed away from cancer, Bud was fortunate to find love and companionship again with Charlene ‘Louie’ Vowles. Together, they shared 18 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and memories. Charlene was a perfect companion for Bud and brought a wonderful bonus family into his life: Heather Lane, Geremy (Jamie) Vowles, Matt (Jennie) Vowles, Wade Vowles and Christina Vowles, and Holli (Nate) Rimington. Bud and Charlene have a combined total of 29 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, with 5 more on the way!

Bud embraced Charlene’s family as his own, including the Dart family, whom he loved as a cherished extension of the Vowles family. Whether spending time with his family, cheering on his grandchildren, traveling with Charlene, or making memories with his siblings and extended family, Bud had a way of making everyone feel welcome, included, and loved. He never needed a special occasion to have fun and could find humor in just about anything. His jokes, laughter, and larger-than-life personality brought joy to every gathering. He had an especially soft spot for little children, and whenever one came along, he was sure to smile and say, “What a cute little boy!” or “What a cute little girl!” Bud made people feel special simply by being himself, and his love for family knew no boundaries.

In his later years, Bud faced the challenges of Alzheimer’s disease. Through this difficult journey, he was surrounded by people who provided kindness, compassion, and care. His family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Harmony Hospice Angels—Maddie, Barbara, Rosa, Susan and Bozena, Lighthouse Adult Care Services, and the many friends, neighbors, and ward members for the love, dignity, and support they provided to Bud and his family. Their care made a meaningful difference during a challenging time, and the family will always be grateful.

Bud is survived by his loving wife, Charlene; his siblings, Lynn and JB; his four daughters and their families; and his bonus Vowles children and their families.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice; his parents, Roy Lynn and Rowena Worthington Bryan; his sister, Karyn and brother-in-law, Chad Culley; his grandchildren, Jennings Ellis and Aubrey Taron; and his great-grandchildren, Myles McDowell and twin girls, Nayvee and Kora Ellis.

Though he will be deeply missed, those who knew and loved Bud can honor him best by living as he did: loving their families fiercely, supporting one another wholeheartedly, finding joy in the little things, and never passing up a chance to share a good laugh. What a blessing it was to be part of Bud’s story.

And if anyone asks how Bud is doing now, we can imagine him smiling and giving his familiar answer: “Always good!”
