It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Betty Jo Menalis, our mother, grandmother, and friend. She lost her battle with dementia on August 29, 2026, she was 86 years old.
Born on June 1, 1940, to Edward Daniel Tidwell and Tressie Lee Taylor in Big Cove, Alabama. She grew up in Tooele, Utah, with her mother, Tressie and stepfather, Francis (Frank) Menalis.
In Tooele, she met her high school sweetheart, Frank Dew, her future husband and father of her children. She was the mother of Patty (Terry) Woodham of Shelley, Idaho; Randy (Terri) Dew of Tooele, Utah; and the late Mike (Stacie) Dew also of Tooele, Utah. She has 10 grandchildren, Stefanie (Brandon) Reed, Lindsay (Jared) Nielsen, Taylor (Stephanie) Childs, Tressie (Shayne) Smith, Cris (Stacy) Dew, Ashli Dew-Sullivan, Alex (Callie) Dew, Amber (Barrett) Dodds, Joey Dew, and Brooke (Josh) Anderson. She was blessed with 24 great-grandchildren.
She lovingly had a picture of Elvis by her bedside and listened to him sing Gospel songs every day, acknowledging at times, he was her boyfriend. She felt the love of the people around her during her most difficult times.
She was known for her adventurous spirit, having traveled the world and lived in several states across the country. She always called Tooele County, Utah, home. She owned the Historical Johnson home in Grantsville and spent years restoring it. Her home was her pride and joy and was open to everyone, she treated everyone like family. When she worked, she was a caregiver at the Tooele Nursing Home as she enjoyed always helping others.
Preceded in death by her son, Mike Dew, her parents, stepfather, her siblings, James Tidwell, Ridgecrest, California; Edith Tidwell Thompson, Orlando, Florida; and Billy O’Neal Tidwell.
