Ivan Hale

Ivan Norton Hale passed away September 29, 2012 in Ogden Utah to be with his Father in Heaven and his beloved Sweetheart “Olie”. He was born December 22, 1922 in Grantsville Utah to Earl Hale and Millie Cassidy Hale. Ivan Graduated from Grantsville High School in 1941. He joined the Army in January 1943. He served during WWII and was discharged in October 1945. After leaving the military he worked five years at Tooele Army Depot and 20 years at Dugway Proving Grounds then retired in 1974 after 25 years of Civil Service. During and after his time in Civil Service, He worked as a rancher in Skull Valley and also worked drilling wells with his brother Edwin.  Ivan met his wife Leola “Olie” Callister in 1945 and they were married September 17, 1949 in San Francisco California. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in which he faithfully served many callings. He generously gave of himself and his time to those he knew and those he didn’t.  Ivan had the most charismatic smile. He loved people and especially children, whom he was always eager to teach and pass on his the wealth of his knowledge about anything from fishing to fixing cars. He had an incredible work ethic and willingness to serve his fellow man. His sense of humor and kind heart was unparalleled. He never came across anything broken that he did not think he could fix and usually did. Unfortunately, only time and the knowledge that we will be together again someday will fix our broken hearts.  Ivan is preceded in death by his parents; Brothers Harvey and Nathan; Sisters Evelyn, Fern, Lorna, and Rosalyn; and his wife Leola. He is survived by his sons Bradley R. Hale of Layton and Frankie J. Gilmore of Kayenta Az.; Brothers Fred and Edwin Hale; Sisters Blanch and Barbara; Seven Grandchildren Ben Hale, Millie Conover, Chelsea Tano, Dallas Gilmore, Wyatt Gilmore, Colby Gilmore, Kiana Gilmore; 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  A viewing will be held Wednesday October 3, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Tate Mortuary in Tooele Utah, and 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. preceding the funeral service in Grantsville.  Funeral Services will be held at the Grantsville 12th ward, 428 S. Hale Street Grantsville Utah, Thursday October 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at the Grantsville City Cemetery.  A very sincere “Thank you” to all of the staff of the George E. Wahlen Home for Veterans, for all of the loving care that Ivan received for the past two years.
