1923-2011
Joseph A. Bates beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed peacefully on December 2, 2011 with his loving family by his side. Joe will be remembered for his sense of humor, his kind heart and his unselfish help in the committee. He served in the Army during WW2 from December 7, 1940 to October 2, 1945. Among his many accomplishments, were, being chief of the rescue squad, receiving the Golden Crown for his outstanding Eagle Scout Leadership. His first Job for the Federal Government was an Ammunition Inspector (QASAS). After retiring from the Federal Government, Joe and his wife stayed busy by donating their time working for the Senior Citizen ,food Bank and donating twenty years with the Tooele City Police and Tooele county Sheriff department. Joe served as the commander of the V F W for Several years. In the year 2001, he was named Tooele County Citizen of the year. As a member of Saint Marguerite’s Catholic Church he was a fourth degree knight, of the Knights of Columbus. Joe is preceded in death by his daughters Andrea Benson, Judy Green and his son Andrew. He is survived by his wife Dixie, daughter Carla J. (Walter) Vigil. ten grand children, sixteen great grand children and three great-great grand children. He will be greatly missed by all. Funeral mass was held Wednesday December 7,2011. Interment Tooele City Cemetery. In place of flowers, the family wishes donations be made, to Animal rescue center.
