Barbara Burridge Strong  1921-2011

Barbara Burridge Strong died peacefully with her three children Charlotte, John and Rick by her side on October 26, 2011 after a very short illness. Just ten days ago she celebrated her 90th birthday with many friends and family. She looked beautiful and was full of her usual grace and wit sharing stories and laughter. Mom, grandma and greatgramma we love you so much. We will miss you.  Barbara was born October 18, 1921 inCastlegate,Utah, and lived her early years inCarbonCountywith parents Wanda Christison and Theol Burridge. She later moved with her parents and siblings to Nephi and attended elementary and high school there. It was in Nephi at age fourteen Barbara met Max Strong and fell in love at first sight. Some nine years later they were married and she said the happiest years of her life began.  Max was in the Army, so their first home was inSouth Carolinawhere Max taught his new bride the game of golf. During her life Barbara played team golf in Tooele andStansburyPark. She won many trophies and loved the game, even when she was no longer able to play. Barbara also loved music and loved to sing and even perform in her early years. A get together with Barbara and her three sisters always involved “singin’ the oldies.” She loved the times with friends camping, boating and fishing. Barbara also loved bridge games with friends.  Barbara always put family first. Whether it was making sure Max had a good meal, or taking the kids on a special outing. Children were always welcome in Barbara’s home, and they knew it. She had neighborhood children dropping by for a visit. Her love seemed boundless and she would always have time to just listen. Barbara will be remembered by family and her many friends as an example of love, laughter and patience.  She blessed her children, Charlotte, Rick and John (Lynn) with ten years after Max passed, but she missed him every day. She had a few health challenges, but her wit and memory were amazing right up to her last short illness. She was active in her church and attended weekly with her friend Jeanne. She looked forward to lunching weekly with special friends, Jim and Liz. She also loved her weekly trips to the beauty shop with her dear friend Elaine. She read daily even after losing her sight wit help from theUtahBlindCenter’s books on tape.  She loves behind her three children, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a granddaughter, two sisters and two brothers. A service was held at Tate Mortuary on Saturday, October 29th. Burial will be at the Tooele City Cemetery.
