Charlotte Irene Bell

Posted By on May 8, 2011

Charlotte Irene Bell, “Grandma Great”,  passed away on May 8, 2011 with her family close by her side. She was mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and lovely neighbor to many people who will greatly miss her. “Thanks a bushel,” Grandma, for all the incredible memories. Born on November 23, 1916 in Skull Valley, Utah, Charlotte was the second of five daughters for Pearl Ethel Kauffman and William Orr. The sisters were as close as could be, growing up on Orr’s Ranch and throughout their lives. The family reunions were among Charlotte’s most cherished occasions, although she was just as happy to have you join her for some “porch perching” at her home in Grantsville. Charlotte married her favorite cowboy, Kenneth Kyle Bell, on March 28, 1936 and lived in the house Ken built for over 60 years. It was a wide-open space to raise four daughters and a son, and a wonderful playground for all the grandkids. On warm summer nights, if you peered into the yard, you would often see the entire extended family camped out on the front lawn. For many years, she worked at the Dugway Proving Grounds and the Tooele Army Depot, and she enjoyed reading and a friendly game of Scrabble. Charlotte was surprisingly witty, and had many humorous sayings with just a dose of common sense. Charlotte leaves behind her loving family: Daughters, Carolyn Kyle Baer, Barbara Lynne Orgill, Louise Lewis, Wendy (Kevin) Davis, and son Kenneth (Robbi) Bell: sister Shirley Andrus; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Geraldine Wright, Lorraine Speirs, Doris Whear; sons-in-law, Joel Orgill and Douglas Baer; grandson, Jonathan Davis; and great-grandsons, Leif Orgill and Austin Bell. The family thanks the staff of Avalon Care Center and Inspiration Hospice for their support and tender care. Funeral services will be held at the Grantsville LDS Ward at 415 West Apple St. on Thursday May 12, 2011 at 12:00 Noon. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 10:30-11:45 AM prior to the service at the Church. Interment in the Grantsville Cemetery.
