William Eldred Cole
William Eldred Cole, beloved husband, father, and friend passed away on April 22, 2011 in Tooele, Utah surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 22, 1931 in Grantsville, Utah, the 8th of 10 children of Albert Burnett Cole and Ione Barrus.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning home he resumed his 30 year civil service at Tooele Army Depot. While there, he met the love of his life, Nola May Pendleton. They were married on January 15, 1955 and later had the marriage solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They have enjoyed life together for the past 56 years.
Although Alzheimer’s robbed him of his memories, our memories of him are vivid. Dad was a loving father, husband, and friend. He had a great sense of humor and was a gifted tease. He was always playful and fun with his children and grandchildren and could always make them laugh uncontrollably. His latest great-granddaughter, Tess, has been a particular joy and comfort to him during this past year as he slipped further away from us. He always responded to her with love and happiness.
He loved the outdoors and we have many fond memories of camping and fishing with Dad. He loved working in his garden, which was always very large, and raising various farm animals. He enjoyed helping others and would always lend a hand when he saw a need.
Bill was an active member of the LDS church, where he served in many capacities. He had a great faith in the plan of salvation which comforts and strengthens us in our faith that we will see him again. His passing at Easter time serves as a tender mercy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ione, and by two brothers and five sisters, Burnett, Jared, Edna, Alta, Verna, LaJet, and Lois, and by son-in-law Kim Acton.
Bill is survived by his wife Nola; five children, Nancy Otteson (Bob), Debra Acton, Keven Cole (Sherie), Julie Martin (Pat), and Randall Cole (Jennifer); 21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Denzel Cole and a sister Doris Barry.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, April 27th at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing prior to the services from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Deseret Peak Ward (550 East Durfee) in Grantsville. Interment will be held at the Grantsville City Cemetery following the services.
We express our heartfelt thanks to Dad’s caregivers, both current and former, at Rocky Mountain Care in Tooele. As a family we would like to express how much you meant to him and us for your tender loving care of our father.
