William E. Wilson

1919 – 2011

Our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on March 20, 2011.

Bill was born October 5, 1919, in Ashcreek, South Dakota, to W.J. and Mary Wilson. He grew up on a dairy farm in South Dakota and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1935-36. He worked as a ranch hand in Wyoming and was an extra in the movie “Bad Man of Wyoming” filmed in Jackson Hole in 1940. He had to buy a pair of boots and rent a horse for $5 a week, and he played both an Indian and a cowboy. He volunteered for the draft in 1941 and was in the 168th Infantry Medical Detachment. Wounded in Algiers, North Africa, in 1942, and awarded the Purple Heart by Dwight D. Eisenhower. After hospitalization in England, he returned to duty in Northern France and received an Honorable Discharge in 1946. Bill worked at Mt. Rainier Army Depot and TAD for 30 years. He married Noreen (Peg) Walsh on May 3, 1952. He is survived by his wife and children – Maureen Slusher (Lee), Mary Pannunzio (Hank), Mike Wilson (Marla), Michele McNichol (Paul), and Marna Roguschka. Also, 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sister Kathleen, sisters-in-law Patricia, Audra and Tiny and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents and siblings Mary, Jim, Frank, Joe and Kenny. We will treasure our memories of his sense of humor, backyard barbeques, fishing trips and that “Hail Mary” dirt that anything would grow in. He gave freely of his love and his time. Let’s see – 5 kids times how many houses and yards?!! Rosary and Requiem Mass to be held on Saturday, March 26th, at 11am at St. Marguerite’s Catholic Church in Tooele. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Marguerite’s Bldg Fund or the American Lung Assoc. We love and miss you Dad, and are lucky we had you for so long.
