I was so saddened to see this obituary. I knew Rod way back in high school. He was my very first boyfriend and always treated me with humor and respect. I had no idea what kind of life he had, but it sounds like it was a very happy one. My sincerest condolences and prayers go to his children and grandchildren.
i also new rod from high school , last time i ran into him. we were both standing in line getting our physicals for military service in 1975, he was re joining, i was going to try the marines. we had classes together. one our senior year almost was his last, we were playing soft ball, rod was batting and had just knock one foul right field allmost a home run. i was next up tio bat and as i was telling him good hit, the fielder from the other side I think it was don tanner. had picked up the the ball and thru it in.that ball came in and hit him in the side of the head . two more steps and it would have hit me. i thought it had done him in. two weeks later he was back in school, same old rod ,but with a lot of wire sticking out from his jaw. well he was a nice guy.tough guy.i am sure a great husband and father. wish i would have ran into him out in the marshes. rest in peace rod and thanks for you service.
