Verla Russell McFarland, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away January 3, 2011. She was born March 15, 1921, the daughter of William Lial and Emily Sagers Russell in St. John, Utah. She married George “Tim” McFarland on September 23, 1940 and they had three children. She was sealed to her husband and children in the Provo Temple on May 12, 1973. She spent most of her life living in St. John where she, along with her twin sister Verna, was always involved in family and community activities. She was a dedicated member of the LDS Church, serving in numerous callings to include: being in the mutual presidency where she was always involved in dance festivals, road shows, and parades; as Relief Society President, and for many years served as the ward librarian. She spent several years providing the “News of Rush Valley” to the Tooele Transcript Bulletin and also served as an election judge. Verla loved to travel and spent time visiting in Hawaii and Germany. In 1990-1992 she served an LDS Mission in Birmingham, England at the age of 70. Verla was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Boyd and Raymond, twin sister Verna and daughter-in-law Debbie McFarland. She is survived by a daughter Diane (Harold) Bird, sons Leonard (Vonadean) and Larry (Reenie) McFarland, 7 grandchildren and 11 (soon to be 12) great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 6th at 12:00 noon at the Rush Valley Ward Chapel, 985 North Church Street, Rush Valley, Utah. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing at the Ward Chapel from 10:00am to 12:00pm prior to the service. Interment will be at the St. John Cemetery.
