Albert R. Arellano died peacefully in his home Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at the Golden Age of 80. He fought a long, courageous battle against lung cancer. He resided in Tooele with his wife Sylvia. Albert was born Sept. 29, 1930 in Costilla, N.M., to Eloisa Martinez. He was raised in a family of 11 children, with three who died as infants. He was, in many ways, a father figure to all of his siblings.  On Oct. 30, 1954, he married his sweetheart, Sylvia Aguilar, in San Luis, Colo. They had six children, Richard, Tony, Judy, Albert, JoAnn and Jimmy.  He joined the Army Airborne and served from 1951-1953. After returning from the service in 1953 he attended Adam State College, Alamosa, Colo., receiving his degree in education in 1956. He later acquired his master’s degree from University of Utah, Salt Lake City. His teaching career began in Minturn, Colo., later transferred his family to Wendover, Utah and retired in 1997 from the Board of Education, as a principal of Northlake Elementary, serving as a teacher for 20 years and a principal for 21 years.  While serving as an educator, he also served his country in the military, beginning as a Paratrooper and retiring as a Staff Sergeant.  He received numerous awards and other recognition in both of his careers.  He enjoyed fishing, watching college basketball, dancing, Bingo and took great pride in his yard work. He also served St. Marguerite’s as an usher for over 35 years, as a member of Knight’s of Columbus, and as a Bingo crew member. More than anything in this world, Albert enjoyed his wife, Sylvia, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all his “adopted” children/grandchildren/godchildren and being a part of their endeavors.  He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; children: Richard Arellano, Tony (Tamy) Arellano, Judy Arellano, Albert Arellano, JoAnn (Matt) Torres and Jimmy (Liz) Arellano; grandchildren: Devon, Rachel and Luciano (Richard); Shantel, Sonja and Anthony (Tony); Daniel and Dion Boltz (Judy); Isaiah, Jacob and James (Albert); Stevie Jo and Carlie Torres (JoAnn) and Andrew, Alyssa, Nicholas and Julian Winnegge (Jimmy); great-grandchildren: Manuel and Donavon (Shantel), Serina (Jerry) and Layla (Isaiah); siblings: Bernadette Arellano, Lee, Pracedes, Robert and Vincent Martinez, Angie Shoats, Rose Mary Trujillo and Yolanda Sisneros. He is also survived by many family members, godchildren and “adopted children.”  He was preceded in death by his mom, Eloisa Martinez; grandson, Jerry Mondragon (Judy); siblings: David, Virgil, Joseph, Juanita and Charlie Martinez and many nephews, nieces, cousins and his favorite pal (dog), Sport.   Viewing and vigil will be held Thursday, Dec. 16 from 6-8 p.m. at St. Marguerite’s Catholic Church (15 South 7th Street, Tooele).  Funeral Mass will be held Friday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. at St. Marguerite’s Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest at Tooele City Cemetery.  A luncheon will be held in St. Marguerite’s Social Hall, following interment.
