Vernon LaMar Knowlton

Vernon LaMar (Plug) Knowlton passed away Oct. 25, 2010 at the age of 96 in Forest Grove, Ore., of natural causes. He was born in March of 1914 in Grantsville, Utah to Frank Forrest Knowlton and Mary Alice Sutton. He lived most of his life in Grantsville, graduating from Grantsville High School in 1933. He married his high school sweetheart, Edna Rose Hammond, Sept. 3, 1935. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived and worked in Salt Lake City during WWII and moved to Grantsville when he got work at Tooele Army Depot as a welder. He was active in the LDS church serving in a variety of positions. He especially enjoyed serving, with his wife, as Extraction Missionaries and his service as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple. He also served with his wife for many years on the Ward and Stake level in the food storage program of the LDS Church. He and Edna built their home, first living in the basement then completing the main floor as finances would allow. They raised four children there: Shirley (Ron) Matthews, Elaine (Ted) Brock, Lee (Susan) Knowlton and Barbara (Greg) Lemmon. He is survived by his wife and their four children, 17 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren living throughout the country. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren. Since 2007 they have lived in Forest Grove, Ore.
