Kenneth Lloyd Thomas, Patriarch of the Tooele Utah Stake returned to his Heavenly Father and into the arms of his eternal sweetheart on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010. Also waiting for him were his daughters Karen and Kathy, his Mother and Father, two brothers and a sister and also numerous other family and friends. He was born on July 16, 1924 in Stockton, Utah to Mary and William Thomas. He was the youngest of four children, two brothers, John and Bud and one sister, Margaret. He enjoyed growing up in Stockton where his childhood was full of activities which included exploring the hills above town, playing baseball, scouting activities, hunting and many family events. With the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he became a mechanic and was stationed aboard a troop transport ship in the Pacific. It was his duty to deliver the troops into battle in a small landing craft…from ship to shore and then back for another group of soldiers. He shared many fond memories that he had during his years in the Navy. After the war he returned home and married his sweetheart, Barbara Rose Groscost, on December 4, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. Over the years they lived in a few different places but their home was always in Stockton where they raised their family. He worked for Stoker Motor and for Tooele County. He served his community as a member of the town council. He spent many years in service to his church where he had many ward and stake callings which included Bishop, serving a mission with his wife and his final calling of Stake Patriarch. He was very active. He loved animals and for years had his “zoo”. He was always a friend and treated each person he met with respect. He is survived by his children Bob and Janice, Steve and Stacey, David and Penny, and Patti and Gordon…also numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He provided a loving home for his children. A home where everyone felt welcome anytime, day or night. A home where the spirit of kindness prevailed. He always enjoyed being around his family and loved a house full of people. The life that he led will be a great example for his family and friends to follow for years to come. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Stockton Ward. A viewing will be held Wednesday night from 6 to 8 at Tate Mortuary and also 1 hour before the service at the church.
