Byron Del Nelsen

A man of few words, admirable integrity, strong work ethic and a huge heart, Byron Nelsen died peacefully on October 6, 2010 due to complications from cancer. Youngest child of James and Emily Nelsen, he was raised in Salt Lake City where he attended South High School and the University of Utah. He later joined the Utah Air National Guard, the 132nd Division. Byron married Diane Christensen in 1959 and soon after they moved to Tooele, Utah where they raised two terrific sons, Mark and Craig.
Byron went into private business in Tooele where he enjoyed his many professional relationships and friends. Upon retiring in 2000, he turned the family owned business, B & D Title Insurance Company over to his son Mark Nelsen. His love and devotion to his workplace family continued until very recently. Byron leaves behind his beloved wife, Diane, his two sons: Mark Nelsen (Shanna) and Craig Nelsen, a brother Wayne Nelsen, (Myrna) and four grandchildren: Andrea Heymann (Eric),Tyler Nelsen, Drew Nelsen and Kyle Nelsen and two great grandchildren: Gavan and Graham Heymann. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Dorothy Hays and Cleo McCroden. Byron will be deeply missed and his memory will live in our hearts as we remember his dedication and generosity to family, friends and work, and his abundant love for life. We trust that he is now playing a very enjoyable round of golf with one of one of his favorite hero’s, the famous golfer, Byron Nelson. A private gathering celebrating Byron’s life will take place on October 14. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Harmony Hospice in Tooele are much appreciated.
