101 Amazing Years Old
Leonard Clinton Kirk passed from this life September 8, 2010 to a wonderful reunion of loved ones on the other side. He was born to Sarah (Sadie) Lewis and Robert Kirk August 12, 1909 in Eureka, Utah. He was actually born in the Iron King mine in Tintic, but since the doctor lived in Eureka his birth was registered there. He has one sister and 8 brothers – Mable, Evelyn (Curley), Clarence (Swede), John (Red), Deloy Cook, Burt Cook, Kay Cook and Doyle Cook and his parents Sadie and Lyman Cook (stepfather) who have preceded him in death. His wonderful wife Fern White also passed away in 1997. They have all been waiting patiently for him to decide it was time to leave this earthly life. The nursing staff and doctors at Mountain Medical Hospital have been wonderful to him during his final days.
He will be missed greatly by his son Jerry (Joanne), and Joyce (Gary deceased) Tate plus his 8 grandchildren, 23 great grand children and 20 great great grandchildren, who all helped celebrate his 101 birthday on August 12 of this year.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He held many positions in the church. His favorite was being a home teacher and being President of the Gospel Doctrine class in Sunday School in the Tooele Sixth Ward, a position he held for almost 13 years. When he decided to retire from that position, much opposed by the class members, he was 98 year old. He also served as a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple for 12 years, but decided he needed to retire from that position when the judge started calling him by his first name after receiving so many speeding tickets while driving home to Tooele after his shift. He resided at the Beehive Home Care Center in Tooele for the past two years, which he loved and called his home. His “girlfriends” at the Beehive House will all miss him. They took such wonderful care of him.
He had many hobbies – gardening, fishing, camping and hunting with his brothers at the homestead in Tintic Mountains. He enjoyed spending the winters in Yuma, Arizona with Fern visiting with the wonderful friends they made there during the winters. He also loved to go to the temple.
A viewing will be held at the Tate Mortuary Monday September 13, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and funeral services will be held Tuesday September 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., at the Tooele Stake Center 253 South 2nd East in Tooele, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please make your donation to the Perpetual Education Fund or the Church Missionary Fund.

We would like to send our condolences to your family at this time! Though we remember meeting Leonard only once a couple of years ago, at our Grandma’s funeral, he was a kind and funny guy! Please know you are in our prayers. Tye and Mandy Cook (Doyle’s grandson)
Mr. Kirk was a very enjoyable individual. He was extremely kind to my mother in his duties as her “home teacher”. Even in horrible weather conditions, he would navigate her driveway to “check” on her. Such a proud gentleman. We will truly miss having him in the neighborhood.
