Susanne Beth Shields Quintana “Susie”
Susanne passed away peacefully on June 29, 2010 at the Jordan Valley Medical Center, surrounded by her family, after battling pancreatic cancer. Susie was born on April 19, 1943 in Tooele, Utah to Lloyd “Gus” Shields and Beth Glenn Shields. She attended school in Tooele and graduated from Tooele High School. She married Douglas Hammond and had two sons. They were later divorced. She married Eugene Quintana and had two daughters. She worked at the Tooele Army Depot as a secretary. She was one of a few secretaries who was also a stenographer and excelled in her work. She also worked for the State of Utah after retiring from Tooele Army Depot. Susie was an avid reader and music fan and she passed her love of music and her wonderful sense of humor on to her children and grandchildren. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and her favorite times were spent with her family. Susie is survived by her husband Gene, Tooele, Utah; children John (Jackie) Hammond, West Valley, Utah; Chris (Valerie) Hammond, Ohio; Lisa (George) Lowe, Sandy, Utah; and Carrie Quintana (Brian Cunningham) Tooele, Utah. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, sister Karen Emery, Tooele, and Bradley (Paula) Shields, Bountiful and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Susie’s family would like to extend special thanks to Sherry and Mark Gladden for all their help and support through her long illness as well as Sheila Martinez, Jamie Betonney and Marissa Sawsak. The family would also like to thank the wonderful staff of Jordan Valley Medical Center for their kind and compassionate care. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Tooele 13th Ward, 1025 Southwest Drive. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Tate Mortuary on Tuesday, July 6th, 2010 and one hour preceding the funeral. Interment will be held at the Tooele City Cemetery.
