Ross Williams

Ross G. Williams, age 93, died January 14, 2010 from causes incidental to age. He was born March 21, 1916, in Tooele, Utah to George Henry Williams and Emma James, the 6th of 10 children. During the depression, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He married Luana Johnson on October 6, 1937, in the Salt Lake City Temple. They are the parents of five children, Janet (Moab), Gerald (Claudia) (Provo), Kathleen (Curtis Wilson, deceased) (Idaho Falls), Susan (Bisel) Stephens (Logan), and Tim (Chris) (Salt Lake City). Ross is survived by one sister, Emma Lou (Max) Harvey. He attended the University of Utah and completed his education with home study courses. He worked as a draftsman at the International Smelting and Refining Co. in Tooele and at Peterson Engineering in Salt Lake City. His major work was as an engineer at the Tooele Army Depot from 1946 until his retirement in 1978. From 1956-58 he and his family lived in Metz, France where he worked as a civilian engineer for the U.S. Army. He served many years as a member of the Tooele County Board of Education.  Ross was an active member of the LDS church and served in many callings, including ward clerk, member of a bishopric, and stake missionary.  Music was an important part of his life. He enjoyed playing the harmonica, guitar, organ, and mandolin. He performed music for many groups on a carpenter’s saw. He was also an accomplished artist and calligrapher.  His wife Luana passed away on June 17, 1978. On August 18, 1979, he married Naomi Day Jensen, becoming the step-father of Jeneal (Don), Dale, Don (Eileen), Dennis, Janet (Richard) Thorpe, and Keith (Shelley). He and Naomi served a mission in Cleveland, Ohio. She preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, January 18, 2010, in the Tooele 2nd Ward at 583 North 270 East, Tooele, Utah. The viewing will be held before the services at the church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Tooele City Cemetery following the funeral.

    What a wonderful, genuine, loving man we knew our Uncle Ross to be. I knew him to be a good brother to my Dad. His life seemed to be full of service but he also appeared to live life to its fullest. We will all miss him.
