Max Freeman Anderson passed away Thursday January 28, 2010 of cancer at the age of 96. He was born Nov 25, 1913 in Raymond, Alberta, Canada to William Richard and Alice Bevan Anderson and was the 6th of 10 children. Max graduated from Tooele High School where he played football and was All State End. He also played football at the University of Utah and at what was then Utah State Agricultural College. It was there that he met Florence Briggs from Layton. They were married Oct 7, 1935 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have been married nearly 75 years and have been each other’s best friend. Max, along with his brother Bevan, and his dad, owned and operated Anderson’s Market on Tooele’ s main street. He and his dad also owned and built the Riverside Motel on North Temple, in Salt Lake City. He was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a volunteer fireman in Tooele and established the first fire department in Bloomington (near St George) and served in both cities as their fire chief. He was also President of the Bloomington Country Club. Max and Briggs had 3 children: Daughter Lois Hawkins (Ted), Son Bill Anderson (Kathy), and Robert Anderson, deceased (Cheryle). He has 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Gayle Bamesburger. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, 5 brothers, a son Robert and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Anderson. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday February 3rd, 12 noon at the Middle Canyon Ward 777 Skyline Drive in Tooele. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 10 – 11:45.
