Blanche Herron Berry

Posted By tatemortuary on January 3, 2010

“Aunt Blanche” –  Blanche H. Berry passed away peacefully at home on January 3, 2010.  She was 86 years old.  Blanche was born August 11, 1923, to Elmer and Margaret Alice Bates Herron in Erda, Utah, the fifth of ten children.  Blanche married Lloyd Berry, December 18, 1946, in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Evelyn and John Dreitzler. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They never had children of their own, but Blanche was a “favorite Aunt” to her many nieces and nephews. She loved being called the “other mother.”  Blanche graduated from Tooele High School.  She was awarded a scholarship to the University of Utah but was unable to use it. During World War II, Blanche studied commercial art at Frank Wiggins Art School and worked part-time at Douglas Aircraft in Los Angeles, CA.  She returned to Utah and worked at Fort Douglas in Salt Lake City then later transferred to the Tooele Ordinance Depot where she worked in the Technical Library, a job she enjoyed very much.  Blanche was a gifted artist and expressed her creativity in many ways including oil painting, tole painting, sewing, embroidery, and other handicrafts.  She loved her garden and filled it with beautiful roses and flowers.  She always looked forward to the first crocus peeking though the snow each Spring. She was a member of the LDS Church and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She completed a great deal of genealogy work for her family and her home was filled with photos of her nine siblings and their children whom she adored. Aunt Blanche was always there to lend a listening ear to anyone who needed it. She had a way of making each person feel special and loved.  Blanche will be greatly missed by her loving family, neighbors and friends.  She is survived by her sister Evelyn and her husband John Dreitzler of Tooele, Utah; brother Richard and his wife Carolyn Herron of West Jordan, Utah; brother Ned and his wife Mary Herron of Erda, Utah; brother-in-law Glen Berry, Washington; sister-in-law Lola Herron, Washington; sister-in-law Beverly Herron, California; brother-in-law Floyd Moon, Utah; and many nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by her husband Lloyd, her parents, brothers and sisters Alex and Jan Herron; George Herron, Kenneth Herron; Elaine and Con Hancock; Margaret and Wayne Wineinger; Sally Moon; and her beloved dogs Trixey and Ginger.  The family sends special thanks to her caregiver of nearly 10 years Rene Douglass.  Services will be held Friday, January 8th at 12 Noon at the Tooele 11th Ward, 180 So. Coleman. A viewing will be held Thursday, January 7th from 6 – 8 p.m. at Tate Mortuary, 110 So. Main, Tooele, Utah, and 10:30 – 11:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church.  Interment: Tooele City Cemetery.
