Odetta McLaws

mclaws.odettaOdetta McLaws, age 97, passed away peacefully in her home on Oct. 2, 2009. She was born March 13, 1912 at Burrville, Utah to Joseph and Laura Stewart. She was adopted and raised by her parents Lillian and Jesse Day.  She married Robert Glen McLaws on Oct. 28, 1929. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on Oct. 7, 1946.  She loved to cook, and managed and owned several restaurants such as the Tooele Stake House and the Kirk Hotel. She also worked as a cook at Bauer and for many years at the Tooele Valley Hospital.  She loved her family deeply and together they formed a family orchestra, which played for community dances and other social events. She was a member of the LDS Church and served in many church callings throughout her life.  She loved people and her door was always open to anyone who needed help. She gave lodging, food and help to several different families over the years.  She is survived by her children Marjorie Stubbs, Mickey (Jim) Hansen and Florence (Tim) Curwen. Also, her daughters-in-law Judy McLaws and Sharon Rassmusson. Other survivors include 12 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, sons Bob and Gene McLaws, son-in-law Max and granddaughter Shelly.  Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 8th.
