Cosetta Castagno

castagnocosettaCosetta (Cosy) Elizabeth Wright Castagno passed away July 19, 2009, at her home in Vernon, Utah.  Cosy was born October 3, 1920, in Vernon  to Charles and Elizabeth Hillman Wright.  She married Pierre (Shorty) Castagno on October 29, 1943.  They lived on the Faust ranch raising livestock and children.  In 1956 they sold the ranch, moved to Vernon and bought the Silver Sage Service.  Cosy love the west desert, poetry, local history and genealogy.  Her poetry earned her several awards and has been published.  Because of her knowledge of history and genealogy, her help was often sought out.  She tirelessly researched to identify the unmarked graves located near the family ranch below Vernon.  This feat was acknowledged by then-LDS President Faust, who was a speaker at the dedication of the monument and the cemetery.  Cosy was mayor of Vernon for several years and was a driving force in getting the firehouse built.  She is preceded in death by her husband Pierre, her daughter Joetta Jones, 3 sisters, 3 brothers and 4 stepsons.  Cosy is survived by daughter Linda (Darrell) Rainey, St. George, UT; Pete (Judy) Castagno, Vernon, UT; Roseann McPhaul, San Diego, CA; David (Marilyn) Castagno, Tooele, UT; John (Maryann) Castagno, Las Vegas, NV, and her 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be in the Vernon Ward Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.  Viewing is 6-8 PM, Friday, July 24 at Tate Mortuary in Tooele and  9:30 – 10:30 AM at the Vernon Ward.
